My Experience

Oh boy, what a game. An obvious homage to Half-Life, this game is absolute gold. From the creatures and horrors littered throughout, to the machines and humans that try and erase you from existence, this game is full of fun.

It was still in Early Access when I started playing through it co-op with a friend, but it had a huge amount of playability and content.

You start off as a scientist (where you get to pick a specialty/class) and you end up going out into the desert into a hidden facility. When you're there, everything goes haywire and you start finding bits and pieces of information talking about weird creatures and events that happened prior to your arrival.

While playing through it, you're introduced to all sorts of creatures other enemies that have the goal of deleting you from the facility, and life. There's also friendly NPCs scattered around that help flesh out the storyline.

While the game relies heavily on the crafting/base building and hunger/thirst/bathroom mechanics (something Half-Life didn't do), it adds a ton of content that doesn't end up feeling tedious or like a huge grind to complete.

As of writing this, it's still in Early Access with a planned release date coming up soon with their 1.0 Cold Fusion update.

Keep an eye on the Rocklarks!

Best Things About the Game

  • Engaging gameplay that doesn't hold your hand the whole way through.
  • Extremely good art style and environments
  • Crafting system is well-balanced and there are tons of items to make.
  • The various SCP-style creatures are a fantastic addition.

What Could Be Better

  • I honestly can't think of anything that I didn't enjoy.

Check it out on Steam. It's well worth the $25 USD. Honestly that may be a little too low for the amount of fun that has been packed into this game. Give it a shot!
